DNA Profiling and Human Identification

Dr Maguire has been involved in DNA profiling since its inception as a routine forensic science technique in 1987.  Chris has specialised in the use of DNA profiling for human identification in ‘missing person’ cases, disaster victim identification, familial searching of DNA databases and  in paternity and other relationship analysis cases.

Invited member of the DNA advisory group for identification of victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Louisiana and Mississippi


Forensic Advisor to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the Home Office and Foreign & Commonwealth Office in relation to the use of DNA profiling as an identification technique (SE Asia Tsunami disaster investigation) – see Publications



UK lead scientist on several international Mass Fatality Victim Identification projects including:

Survey and recovery of human remains from the wreck of the MV Gaul

Branch Davidian Sect siege, in Waco, Texas 

UN Helicopter Crash in Bosnia
